Wardriving is a reconnaissance act of driving around a locality looking for wireless networks / access points. Many a times, wardrivers plot these locations on maps and host them on the web (eg. www.wefi.com). The objectives of wardrivers range from hobby to unethical hacking into unprotected wireless networks to using bandwidth unauthorizedly. Wardriving meetup groups can be found in almost all the cities and towns. Wardriving can be achieved by simply having a wireless enabled laptop and network sniffing tools like Kismet and Netstumbler. More sophisticated wardrivers have rigs (hardware and software components used for wardriving) comprising of GPS devices, antennae, amplifiers etc. It is therefore imperative for every wireless user to protect his network.
